Vicki Doudera here, inviting you and yours to a party to celebrate the arrival of DEADLY OFFER, third in the Darby Farr Mystery Series. The gala event takes place Thursday, April 5, at 5 pm, at Cellardoor Winery in Lincolnville, Maine. If you’ve never been to this gorgeous Midcoast Maine landmark, you are in for a treat. Nestled amongst the Camden Hills, the picturesque vineyard and graceful buildings are a real feast for the senses in any season, but in spring this place really shines.
Why Cellardoor Winery, you ask? Is it just because Vicki really likes their “Perfect Stranger” white?
Okay, I DO love that wine! But here’s the real reason… the setting of DEADLY OFFER — actually the whole darn thing — was inspired by this special place. Two years ago, I looked out over the undulating rows of grapes at Cellardoor and those two little words, so dear to those of us who write fiction, popped into my head: “What if…”
What if a hardworking vineyard owner was found murdered after offering her winery for sale? What if the three prospective buyers were powerful people, all of whom desired her property with a deadly passion? Throw in a saboteur who may or may not be the villian, sibling rivalry between the victim’s two grieving brothers, and the heroine, Darby Farr, working valiantly — not just to solve the mystery and sell the vineyard– but to stay alive, and, voila! You’ve got DEADLY OFFER.
I’m very excited about this book, and that has prompted me to do something special for its introduction to the world. As Kate wrote a few days ago about launching her newest book, these parties are an act of faith for writers. We never know how many people will come, and that can be a tad bit daunting. Thank you, Kate! I may save the reading for later events — I tend to like to circulate for launches. And I think people will be coming and going so it will lend itself more to the cocktail party type event.
