We know that our MCW readers are thinking of Lea, as we are, and wanted to share this brief update about her condition. At the moment, she is having in-home hospice, with pain meds every four hours. All four of her daughters are with her. She is unable to respond to e-mails or take phone calls, but wants us to know that she appreciates the e-mails and messages of love and support that readers and friends are sending.

Thank you for the update on Lea. She is a special and talented lady. My good thoughts and prayers are with Lea and her family. So glad to have spent time with her at Malice this year.
I have known Lea though her wonderful books before I met her in person. I talked with her for a long time at each Malice Domestic convention and sat one year at her banquet table where she showered us with Maine related goodies. Sending peaceful and loving thoughts and holding her in our heart. Love you, Lea.

Lea, I will miss your wonderful books and characters, but most of all, I will miss hearing about you through your blog posts. You have brought the state of Maine alive for me to the point my husband and I hope to visit there next year for our 35th wedding anniversary. (We live in the opposite corner of the country in the Pacific NW, and neither of us has been to Maine yet.)
I pray for your peaceful transition surrounded by those you love. You have fought the good fight and been so open with your readers about the whole thing. You are one classy lady.

My Chatham Sister, unfortunately, we all come to a time for farewells… I’ve loved getting to know you since the outstanding reunion in ‘08 (?). You received the major award, and I got to sing with Harold Betters whom I’d loved since 1966 when I turned 21… When I need strength and/or time to prepare, I turn to two sets of verses. Ph. 4:4-13+19 every day and Psalm 139:1-18 when it’s time to go be with your hloved ones. Wish I could send you an angel
