Jessie: In New England, wrapped in layers and trying to break a fever.

THE WINNER OF THE GIVEAWAY IS JEAN RIDEOUT! Jean, please email me at jessica at jessicaestevao.com with your mailing address and I will send out a copy of Whispers Beyond the Veil straight away!

Although it happens rarely, I have been struck down with something nasty. I ache, my coughs could shatter glass and my stomach has made a nuisance of itself for hours.

So, as a distraction I’ve turned my thoughts to something that makes me smile, the cover for my second Change of Fortune Mystery, Whispers of Warning. Looking at it makes me feel like summer may once again return even though snow is pelting my windows.

As a way to celebrate it, I am pleased to offer a copy of the first in the series, Whispers Beyond the Veil to one commenter who sends along a cold, flu or general malaise remedy or some other comment to take my mind off my woes.

Good luck and good health!

Rest and plenty of fluids…maybe a salt water gargle!

I know someone who swears by Vicks on the soles of your feet! I generally use it on my chest and under my nose. Also when I’m sick I find it hard to concentrate on reading 🙁 So what I would recommend it watching a show that makes you feel good.
    For friendship and mysteryishness
    Rizzoli and Isles
    For laugh out loud
    Big Bang Theory
    For comfortable
    Mystery She Wrote
    I hope you feel better!

  4. Hi Jessie,
Un-gelled warm Jello in your favorite flavor can soothe your stomach when sipped. You make it like you’re making regular Jello, adding enough cold water to be at a comfortable temperature for you.
I truly hope you feel better soon!

I’m old fashioned .. chicken soup, gingerale (ginger lemon tea really helps with stomach problems), Vitamin C and zinc. And — some activia should help get your body back to normal. (And I love your cover!) Hope you’re feeling better very soon — no matter what remedies you try. And get off the computer and get some rest!!!

    Love the cover! Feel better.

Concentrated lemon juice, hot water, and a healthy dose of whiskey…for medicinal purposes only, natch. Cures what ails you!

  9. Gail Arnold says:

Chicken soup. Unstuffs your nose, soothes your stomach, and comforts your soul. When I’m too sick to hold a book and read, I put in my DVD of Anne of Green Gables. Sweet, adorable, and if I doze off I can rewind. Get well soon.

  10. So sorry you’re sick, Jessie!

  11. Kaye L Killgore says:

Sleep, lots of sleep, along with chicken soup, salt water gargle, your favorite OTC pain relief, and more sleep

We swear by Alka Seltzer Cold but only in the fizzy dissolving tablets. The gel caps are worthless. Helps with aches, coughing, stuffy and runny nose. And lots of hot water. Just plain hot water. Water will keep you hydrated if you’re coughing a lot, and the hot water is absorbed much more quickly into your system than cool or cold. I thought my father in law was just too homespun when he recommended it to me. But, he was right. It is amazingly soothing.

Sorry you’re sick, Jessie. There’s been some nasty crud going around.
My Grandfather’s cure for what ails ya — boil an onion in some “shine”, let it cool a bit, and drink it down. Me — I recommend chicken soup and ginger tea. Or just ginger tea if you can’t stand the thought of chicken soup just yet.

The cover of Whispers of Warning is just as beautiful as the cover of Whispers Beyond the Veil. My flu recommendation is lots of rest, a Tara Herbal Ease Neck Pillow (Amazon), spiced Russian tea, Advil and a steak and mashed potatoes. My Grandmother would always come over and make that for me when I was sick, and it made me feel better almost immediately.

    Feel better soon!
